Tar Heel Gem & Mineral Club
A community of rockhounds, collectors, and lapidary hobbyists — sharing the hunt for crystals, fossils, and fine minerals across the Carolinas.
A club built around the hunt
Three things bring us together every month — and there’s room at the table whether you’ve collected for decades or just picked up your first rock.
Monthly Meetings
Gather on the third Tuesday of each month (except December) for presentations, specimen swaps, and show-and-tell. Visitors are always welcome.
Field Trips & Digs
Head out to quarries, mines, and creek beds across the region to collect specimens straight from the ground.
Lapidary & Learning
Cut, polish, and identify your finds — and learn the craft from members glad to share decades of know-how.
Rockhounds, collectors & the curious
The Tar Heel Gem & Mineral Club is a volunteer-run group of mineral collectors, fossil hunters, and lapidary hobbyists from across the North Carolina Piedmont.
We believe the best part of the hobby is sharing it — a swapped specimen, a tip on where to dig, a hand identifying a mystery rock. Whether you’re chasing museum-grade crystals or just love a good creek-bed afternoon, there’s a place for you here.
